Don’t miss it!   Meet the Bears on Natural World

Tonight, (that’s BBC2 at 8pm UK time, 4 November 2019), Natural World takes a look at the habits of a family of bears in “Meet the Bears”. 

The programme looks at the skills they need to learn to survive, such as finding food, raising their cubs, facing rivals and habitat loss.

It introduces bears in all their different forms from the spectacled bear to the sloth bear, the polar bear and the grizzly bear.

The footage should be quite something to see and there are short clips to enjoy while we’re all waiting.

Hugh Bonneville is the narrator.  If you miss it, the programme should be available on IPlayer shortly after viewing, and there’s the most beautiful gallery of pictures you can take a look at here.

If you want to read a feel good story, check out the work that Kyra and Sophie are doing.  They are running Hedgehog Friendly Town.  They are doing amazing work; so far they have saved over 400 hedgehogs and the care they give them is incredible.

The girls have just appeared on Channel 5’s Saving Britain’s Hedgehogs programme and the way they took in a hedgehog from a member of the public was really professional.

Visit Hedgehog Friendly Town

On Wednesday 8^th May 2019, there’s a two part programme called Saving Britain’s Hedgehogs at 8pm on Channel 5. 

The programmes are on Wednesday 8 May 2019 and Wednesday 15 May 2019.

Steve Backshall and Queen’s Brian May are teaming up to save the hedgehog.

Hedgehogs were recently voted Britain’s favourite wild animal – but their numbers are decreasing fast.  In fact, they could be extinct in the UK within a decade.

There’s a determined effort to save them. 

Three years ago, Brian May teamed up with Anne Brummer, a wildlife expert, to set up Amazing Grace.   It’s a hedgehog rescue centre in Surrey.

Only Fools and Horses star, John “Boycie” Challis is also on the programme.

There’s a lot we can all do to help hedgehogs, so please lend a paw and watch the programme.

Hedgehog charities include the British Hedgehog Preservation Society which has a huge network of hedgehog carers around the UK
